Egypt is an African nation but it doesn't seem right to call them African-Americans because AA has racial connotations and many Egyptians are not black.

Geographically they're African but in America they're  considered Arab. African Americans are people whose ancestors were slaves.

You should watch Ahmad Ahmad the stand up comedian. He's an American Egyptian & he's part of a stand up comedian group called axis of evil. They are few Arab American & one Iranian American.

Ahmad once said while on the stage: "Egypt is in Africa. So, technically I'm an African American......

Seriously, I'd say both. Egyptians are African Arabs, & in fact they're also Mediterraneans.

Egypt is in the northern part of the continent "Africa".

EDIT: people don't seem to realize that the twenty-third dynasty was one of the dynasties that was Ethiopian based. In other words the Pharaohs were Africans. From Ethiopia? Africa?

Despite their lack of pigment in the flesh they are still Africans.
