I want to know if Spanish people are pompous and prejudice, especially against people of Mexican background? At work at our office, we had someone of Spanish background, and this guy was unwrapping a candy, and he put the wrapper in my front pocket of my suit, I was about to jump out of my desk and give him a taste of my fist. This guy was really pompous and rude. I had to walk out of my office before I did anything drastic. Im mix, I think I look Mexican, others argue more Asian, so Im just assuming Spaniards hate Mexicans. I also saw his son, whom was as arrogant as his father. Are Spanish people really racist and pompous? My father, told me Spanish people don't like Mexicans. Its not like I hate Spain, I love flamenco guitar, and Spanish dancing, answers please, will be very helpful if your Spaniard and would like to add your own thoughts. Thank you.

  1. DONT THINK SO! Nope no way...not this time nor anytime..bunch of bs. Im Spanish American. I have cousins that are half mexican and half spanish, I have had tons of mexican friends and girlfriends. On the contrary I think sometimes its hard for spanish people to convince especially mexican indians that were are not racists and good people. Once we both have that trust, we are family.

Bottom line, its kind of been a love hate relationship but so has it been with the italians and spanish. But at the end..we really support each other.  I respect italians and mexicans as they do spanish. And we are in this together. YOu know much of the cast of Jersey Shores including DJ Pauly D and 2 other dudes and that one tall girl that is fine with black hair are all half spanish and half italians.

So we support one another. BTW im part spanish and italian and I support all people. Racism sucks and was never raised in it. My family in Spain and in Italy are not racists...proud of their heritage...YES..but not racists!

  2. No way Im a Spaniard and we are not predjuice against whom we call brothers and sisters that were once colonies, after all they were considered to be part of Spain as well.

I will say that we dont have a cste system so to speak like indians and many others. I think its also fair to say that the Northern Spaniards look down upon the southern spaniards and those from the canary islands , since our blood is mixed with MOorish/ Berber. But that mix is mostly all over Spain except like in Galicia and Asturias where it is Celtic.

So to answer the question, the true spaniard( not an inplant or ones that have been in Spain for generations, however their ethnic make up is from another land) is some what but even to other spanish people and regions of spain.

For the most part I would say Spaniards are welcoming, after all look at the amount of people that have immigtated.

  3. Well, we can't say ALL Spanish people are prejudiced. I am Asian and I have lived in Madrid for 3 years now. Having lived in other Spanish-speaking countries, I was ready to be bombarded with racist comments and harassment (thanks to my previous experiences... not good times). But wow, these people are so nice! What you have to know is that the Spanish are just like the quote "the Spanish do what they want to do", in a good way.
Yes, sometimes there is a little arrogant behavior here and there, but they are usually from drunk people or schoolboys, and I don't really mind. Spain used to be a facist country and thought that white people were the #1, so it is understandable that some people are prejudiced against immigrants. But that is a veryy small percent these days. The Spanish are very playful and loud and expect you to get along with it. Most of the things they do that may seem slightly mean or annoying might just be out of good humor.
When I attended a school in Madrid, one of my friends was from Mexico. The Spanish kids that sat behind us at lunch began to throw french fries toward her and making very provocative motions to her. She began crying and one of the schoolboys noticed. Instead of laughing at her, he was very surprised she was crying and went over to her and gave her a hug and said he was sorry, that it was all just a joke. As harsh a joke it was, he had actually done it because he liked her.
Do not judge all Spaniards because of that one person. In reality, they are such sweet people and even though they are a bit loud, they just love to have fun :)
