  2. At a currency convertor shop, yes, but it does need to be converted to Euros to pay for anything.

  5. No, they are not. We use Euros. You can get them from an ATM with your bank card now, and it's charged to your bank account in the US.

    Only an American wouldn't think to ask whether that's Canadian, Australian or New Zealand dollars.

  9. Unless your gonna give it into a bank to change for you or a currency shop you better bring lots of Euro with you, the cost of living is high over here now, and if you are hiring a car be prepared to pay up to 1.23 for a litre of petrol!!! Your dollar wont get you far here I'm afraid

  12. Many stores and  post offices and all banks do bureau de change, so you can use your dollars in lots of places.  You will get any change in euro, though.  And you would probably get the best exchange rate from the banks.  Ask around, though.  Different banks offer different rates.

I was in Ireland last year.  Alot of places will take american, but they will charge a fee to convert to Euros.  Your best bet is to go to the exchange , which is in the airport.  In Dublin, it is right in the baggage claim area for arrivals.  They will give you a current conversion rate, and there is no fee, or it i minimal at best.  Visa Mastercard or tavelers cheques are all very good alternatives to cash.

    Also just a word of advise to all who travel out of the country.  Notify credit card company, and bank debitcard dept. of your travel dates.  They will decline all purchases if they are not informed of your travel.

  29. pretty true what some of the recent respondants have said.u might find the occassional souvenir shop that would take them but at a rate well above the current exchange.get thee to a bank or bureau de change!

  30. some of the big department stores in dublin will accept them, but you are going to get a lousy rate, better off changing them at the bank.
