Are childhood memories reliable?

When you recall childhood memories, are they exactly as they happened or distorted? serious answers only please, thank you x

  1. not always it depends what you are remembering.   Often every member of a family will remember an incident differently. Your interpretation of the incident would be affected by your age, the context it was in and your life experiences. However sexual abuse is normally sexual abuse.  


  2. It really depends on your age. But if you were really young like 5 or younger id say there is a good chance that at least some parts of your memories are distorted. That is not to say that the main point of the memory being recalled is incorrect, but maybe a bit different than what really happened. Even adults don't recall memories correctly, even if they are asked 5 minutes after seeing what they are supposed to be remembering... it depends on how much attention was being payed, what state of mind the person was in or if someone in particular is asking you to recall the memory. If the latter is the case than be careful because the power of suggestion and the phrasing of the question can often be misleading.
