This may be a little graphic*

Today in the car, my little pom was sticking his head out the window, and since he's little, he had to stand. I was trying to get him to sit on my lap, and I noticed that next to his p***s (on each side) there was a lump. These are not his testicles (he's 4 months). The lumps were the size of a large grape. Afraid it was a tumor, I felt for a mass, but they were soft and felt as if they were made of fat (it was textured like cellulite). He's a healthy pup, that is by no means over weight (since I can't walk him because he doesn't have all his shots, I run up and down the stairs with him, have him chase toys, etc.) They only show when he stands up, but is this vet worthy? Are dogs supposed to have this? He had his last shots and a check up yesterday, he's fine. I just don't know what these two lumps are! Any advice? Should I take him back to the vet?

  1. typical boy dog. You don't have to be doing anything for him to get excited. I have male dogs do this all the time when they are getting groomed he just excited.

  2. This is very normal.  Not to worry.  This is the bulberous (sp) part that swells up inside the b**ch when they are breeding.  This is what makes a "tie".  He was probably excited or had to urinate. Just a normal part of the male anatomy of a dog.

  3. It sounds like his "knot."  Check again real quick. When a dog gets excited his p***s might appear a little bit and you can see his knot beneath the skin.

  4. Sounds like his bulbus glans..  when a male dog mates with a female, the p***s retracts from teh sheath, and there is a part on the p***s that swells inside the female so a tie can be complete to assure a successful mating.

This part will swell also, even when the p***s is inside the sheath, when your dog is excited, stimulated, or aroused (even non-sexually..  the stimulation of the smells in the car ride were enough to excite him).  This occours even in neutered dogs.

Nothing to worry about, its normal.  This is why you will notice the bumps some times.. but not other times.

  5. It's part of his p***s.  When dogs get worked up in any way, it "pops up".  All male dogs do this whether neutered or not.  It's nothing to worry about.  And btw, even a 5lb dog has a full p***s size of much more than 1 inch!  Give the poor boy some credit!
