Are fanfics about real people illegal?

My friend has a fan fiction site and it has a clearly stated disclaimer and she is in no way making money off of this. I was worried if anything she was doing was illegal? She just writes bandom fiction, it's not as if she's claiming any of it is fact.

It is and it isn't.  Free speech being what it is, you can technically write whatever you want, however you have to be careful about where you put it, and you can't make money off it if there's any sort of copyright infringement issues.

Technically, all fanfiction is illegal, but it's kind of controversial.

It'll be fine though.
