Question:

Are my Skates too small?

I have had my skates for a year. I'm not sure if my feet have grown since I got them. What are the signs that my ice skates are too small?

I am in FS3 and I have Jackson FS skates. Is it normal for my feet to feel tired after 1 hr of skating, but after 20 min my feet feel fine. Also I think I may need new skates, because my skates don't feel "sturdy" as they used to. If that makes sense.

Thanks!

  1. Here's a couple of ways to tell if your skates are to small.

    1. Take the insoles out of your skate and see where your toe marks are.  If your toes are at the edge of the insole it could mean that your feet are to big for your skates.

    2. Are you toes laying flat in your boot or are they scrunched up? Your toes should be laying flat and not be touching the top of your boot. When you put your skates on

make sure you kick your heal back into your boot before lacing.

    3. Your boots could be broken down as well if you don't seem to have the support you use to have. You should make an appointment with a boot fitter to have them check for all this.

Most skaters will go through a pair or two of skates at least once a year due to growth and/or skates breaking down.

For a little bit more toe room in your skates, take out your insole, trace that insole to the back of a cereal box, cut it out and replace it with that. It's only a temporary fix but it may give you a little bit of room in your boot if you need it.

  2. What you need to do is have your foot measured to see about the size.

Your feet can feel tired if you are curling your toes or gripping with your toes.  Sometimes when you learn a new skill you can start doing this when you haven't before.

As far as the support of the skate, if you don't feel as much support it is either b/c they have broken down or you have surpassed the level that they are recommended for and you need a more supportive boot.

  3. yes u should buy a new one!
