Yup they are commonly referred to as "Chippers." They are legal, but for the lofe of me I don't understand why anyone would give up one of their 14 allowable clubs for one.

yes they are legal . there is a chipper that has a right hand face , as well as a left hand face this one is illegal . the chipper is very versitile out of the rough for low shots in the 120 yard range . were you need it low with lots of roll . for a senior or higher handicap player , throw the lob wedge , this club will work . also great for women who due to wrist flexibility have difficulty around the green . i am a senior , play 5 wedges . if younger would try one definatly . this is not a new invention . been used since mid 1800s . thank you

Why would you need a "chipper"  when you already have about 7 of them in your bag?  At least thats how many i generally use around the greens...LW, SW, PW, 9-7 irons, and sometimes the putter..SOMETIMES the longer irons too (rarely)..Chippers are a waste of space
