Are places open on labor day?

Like movie theaters and stuff like that.

Are they closed or are there hours shorter?

Everything except for government (i.e post offices) and some banks.

Most are. Their hours may be different though. I assume movie theaters would be open.

What is open, outside of government offices, is up to the individual owner/operator of that business. I assume you have a specific business in mind. Look them up in the phone book, call them today and ask. Then you'll have the straight scoop.
