Are prenatal vitamins safe for reptiles ?

I have a chinese water dragon who seems to have a kind of "cold" I was told by a vet to give her vitamins b12 and c a vet help page told me I can crush up a prenatal vitamin and mix with water and give her a few small drops ...is this right and safe ??? is there somthing in the pills that can hurt her ?? if so what ??

I don't know what country yer in, nor the pharmaceutical strictures.  Laws very wildly, country to country.

They are not a turtle, by a bit... Nor an iguana.

I'm all for the B12, and C.. but.. the prenatal?  I'd have to do research first.

This is much like saying, "Oh, just grind up a 'One-a-day' and it will be fine..."

It has to be absorable, first... and compatible (granted many things are between humans and dogs...)

I would do a bit of research, and this is a new one to me, even for burn victims.

My personal water dragon, Phyllis, died of old age, and I never gave her a prenatal...

But, you can't go AMA (against medical advice) on a whim either.

This is a good forum, IF you can get to anyone who knows.  I'd hit vet sites instead.

I have no answer for you other than - I would not do it.

I'd be shoving fruits and veggies down her gullet, increasing her heat, and taking her out for sun.

I'm sorry to be useless on this topic.  It gives me more reading, for the future and my leisure time.

Vitamins expire quickly.  I can't see a human prenatal doing the trick...

But again - I'm uninformed on the topic.

I hope she's better soon.

Think about it this way, your vet went to school to learn this stuff. Most likely, they know what they are doing. Chances are, people on the internet and most people here have no prior experience treating animals, we don't know exactly what is wrong with ur reptile. Just listen to your vet, do what he or she says and you will be fine.
