Arsenal's need for silverware

http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 have come under pressure lately, especially after crashing out of the Capital One Cup against fourth division team Bradford City. The club lies in 7th spot on the league table, and faces a tough fight to finish in the top 4.
Manager Arsene Wenger has come under immediate pressure following the league cup exit, and is set to face his busiest and most crucial January transfer window to date.
Failing to deliver a trophy in the past 7 seasons, letting key players go every campaign and failing to replace them with quality and able signings has led many of the club’s fans to question the person they once trusted so blindly.
Many have called for Wenger’s head, claiming that the Frenchman’s time may have come and he should quit while he’s still ahead.
But has it really come? Arsenal have continued to compete at the top season after season, despite the likes of money splashing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and Manchester City. The club has spent perhaps lowest than all the other top 6 teams in the English top-flight, but has
still ensured European football for 15 consecutive seasons.
With UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rulings coming into effect soon, the club’s board and administration have asked the fans to bear with them and be patient. In a season’s time, Arsenal will have enough funds to compete with the richest clubs in the country,
and possible Europe, but how long will the fans wait?
Arsenal’s off the pitch success has failed to translate on the pitch, where it really matters. Therefore the club has come under great scrutiny recently.
The current campaign marks the team’s worst start to a Premier League season under Wenger, and if they are unable to win a trophy and/ or finish in the top 4, there will be major repercussions.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380 was the latest player to have left the club, signing for Manchester United in the summer. This really puts a stain on Arsenal’s credibility as a top club, and deprives them of a major asset.
And again, the club was unable to replace the prolific Dutch forward, who now scores goals in a different shade of red. A new look Arsenal team faces a colossal task to deliver, and if they fail, there will be questions asked and fingers pointed. And the
man who will take all the heat will be Arsene Wenger.
The current crop of Arsenal players are all under achievers, and have not won a major trophy. Perhaps that is what has been missing. The elusiveness of silverware, the constant thought of always almost getting there, but never really lifting a trophy. That
is exactly what Arsenal need to set things in motion and relieve the pressure.
If the team is able to find quality players in January, they may still be able to turn the season around. All they need are three marquee signings which will give the squad depth and keep the fans satisfied. There is still time, but not that much. The club
needs to spend money, and win at least a trophy to get back that winning mentality and confidence which comes along with silverware.
