Arsenal: Winter Transfer Prospects Last Part
Continued...
Marko Marin
Current Club: Werder Bremen
The German international is one of the talented few utility players who specializes in midfield but can also play on the wings, if need arises. Marko is currently playing in German Championship side, Werder Bremen and is plying his trade
with the club. Over the time, the 21-year-old has shown great quality while playing for Werder Bremen and was also the member of the German national squad at the FIFA World Cup 2010, albeit he did not get much playing time.
Moreover, he was also the part of Bremen team which qualified for the UEFA Champions League. Marko Marin has been referred to in some quarters as ‘the German Messi’, and is reportedly available for around £15 million.
Arsenal manager is said to be very keen on the 21-year-old German international, although the proposed transfer fee of €15million could halt this deal, considering that Arsene Wenger rarely spend such high amount of money on a single player.
He has been capped 11 times for the German national team and made two appearances as a substitute during the FIFA World Cup, Australia and Serbia in the group stages.
‘The German Messi’ could provide great quality and depth to Arsenal and it is not hard to fathom a situation in the last stages of the season where some of the Gunners key players are sidelined due to injuries. Marin has been excellent
in the recent past, and can help Arsenal in their quest for a title.
Expected Transfer Fee: 12-15 million
Steven Pienaar
Current Club: Everton
The South African skipper is one of the most talented wingers, and is undoubtedly blessed with a lot of quality. Moreover, Everton manager has also admitted that there is a chance of his talismanic midfielder leaving for free next season.
Steven Pienaar’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and he is yet to sign a new contract with Everton.
Though, the Gunners are already blessed with numbers of tenanted wingers, but a player like Steven Pienaar would surely add a lot of quality and depth to Arsenal squad.
Arsenal manager has made his admiration known for Steven Pienaar, and this might be the opportune moment for Arsene Wenger to bring South African to the Emirates.
Expected Transfer Fee: 5-7 million
Per Mertesacker
Current Club: Werder Bremen
Mertesacker’s addition to the squad could prove really vital for Arsenal. The 25-year-old has a lot of experience at the highest level and has the quality to shine at Emirates.
Mertesacker was linked with a move to North London in the summer, but Arsene Wenger failed to secure his services. He is a no-nonsense defender, who has a lot of composure, and provides an air of confidence to the defence. Arsenal has
the cash to spend, and could move to acquire the services of the tall defender.
Expected Price: 10-12 million
Ibrahim Afellay
Current Club: PSV Eindhoven
Ibrahim Afellay is a talented midfielder who plays for Dutch side PSV. The young Dutch sensation is out-of-contract next summer and is open to a move to another club in Europe. Arsenal manager has long been an admirer of the 24-year-old
but Ibrahim recently admitted that he is likely to stay until next summer so that he will be available on a free transfer, which could be irresistible for Arsenal manager.
Moreover, Ibrahim Afellay also admitted that he would love to play in the top club of English Premier League.
Afellay will certainly fancy a move to Arsenal, and his club will not like to lose him on a free transfer, and might cash in on in winter transfer window. However, Afellay will be available at a bargain price in winters, and his versatility
and quality will surely be a boost to the Gunners.
Expected Transfer Fee: 6-8 million
