I have heard smth interesting about - some people in a poor country took in private part of research in the field ofAI- they experimented with modified/pirate/ healing PC products influencing consiance on nothing suspecting victims as neighbours, friends etc. For to hide this the ''researchers'' created paralel virtual ''doubles''with quite different personalities ,based in part of the real lifes of victims by robbed with primitif means info for their private lifes.They pretended this to be some game?

Could this be true to some extent or may be sujet for good thriller?

I don't think this is even worth pondering. This is pure science fiction. It never happened. The story is called "The Stepford Wives" and it came out in the 70s. There were two movies based on the story.
