Gyo Obata, founding partner of architectural firm Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum (HOK), received a 2004 Lifetime Achievement Award in the Arts this month from the Japanese American National Museum.

The award, given to five individuals, recognizes individuals who have shown excellence and innovation in the arts, education and international relations.

Obata, 81, joined George Hellmuth and George Kassabaum in 1955 to form HOK. Some of his landmark designs include Priory Chapel and the Thomas F. Eagleton U.S. Courthouse in St. Louis; the Smithsonian's National Air & Space Museum in Washington, D.C.; and King Khaled International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
