Assault question?

Just so you know, im asking this question cause im a sociology major and we are in the domestic violence section so anyway....

lets say you got into some argument with a guy in a public place and he wound up beating you up, knocking you to the pavement etc. and there were no other witnesses, but you got your attackers licence plate number, which would enable you to have the police sent to his front door with marks on ur body as proof.....however

Before leaving, your attacker takes ur wallet out of ur pockets and reads you your name and address, throws ur wallet back at you and says, "now i have your name and address, if you call the cops, you'll be hearing from me again and guess where ill show up!" and he seems serious, would fear of him showing up at your house after he gets out on bail prevent you from calling the police? would your answer be different if you had kids in the house? Why or why not?

  1. I would absoulutely call the police and have him arrested.  Intimidation of a witness is a serious felony.  If the message is sent to criminals that all they have to do is threaten their victim to avoid prosecution, where would be as a society.  Kids in the house or not, you must call the police.

  2. Definately call police, I think being threatened like that is a crime too. And well if he comes, dont let him in duur. If he manages to get in and murders you or beats you up, just know hes a common thug and will be caught. Most of the time criminals get caught.

  3. There is a lot of truth to the old adage that "it takes two to make a fight". Chances are, 99% of the time you can walk away before it comes to blows. That's a h**l of a lot simpler than trying to sort it all out afterwards.

In any case, your scenario about somebody randomly kicking your @ss, taking your wallet and checking your home address isn't even realistic.

  4. Absolutely, I'd call the police.  I'd take whatever precautions I felt necessary to protect my family, but oh, you betcha I'd call the police.  The guy gave me an azzwhoopin? I've been beat on before...  it doesn't bring out the fear in me, it brings out the rage.

    **EDIT**

BTW, if a guy beats the tar out of me and takes my wallet...  I doubt he's going to worry about whether or not I call the police. Seriously. If he's worried in the first place, he'll "finish" the job then and there.
