Astigmatism vs toric contacts?

So i recently went to the optometrist. He told me that i need to use toric contact lenses. So toric lenses correct astigmatism. and i was just wondering what causes astigmatism in a person's eye. and why is there a difference in toric contacts and in astigmatism contacts?

  1. It is actually the same lenses but different name. It is becos of the shape of theeye thats y the person will get asti


  2. A toric lens has cylinder that corrects for astigmatism.  People with astigmatism need toric contacts with cylinder in them. So, toric contact lenses correct for the vision of people who have astigmatism. Calling them "astigmatism contacts"  is kind of a misnomer and not really what they are called. They are called "toric contact lenses", and that is how we refer to them. Get it? I know , it is confusing!

  3. Contacts for astigmatism and toric contacts are the same thing.  Two words that mean the same.

    Astigmatism is usually genetic and due to the shape of the cornea or the lens of the eye.

  4. Astigmatism is a curvature of the eye and toric is made for this. Normal contacts are for normal eyes and while using them, your vision might not be as sharp as possible.
