Attempting to install my Cannon

Attempting to install my Cannon Pixma MP610 get to point where the printer is connected to the computer and the printer is turned on - receive the message the printer is not connected to the printer. Followed all troubleshooting instructions, restarted the PC and reinstalled the drivers still no luck
