I recently discovered that my garage had been broken into. I live in a four unit building with only one garage which is exclusively mine and I have the only key. When I entered the garage through the interior door I notice that the door was not closing as it used to. A closer look revealed that doorframe had been removed and the door had been lifted off its hinges. Also the door jam had been broken and repaired. In the garage I noticed new plaster work on the ceiling as well as a couple of new runs of conduit and cabling. One new piece of conduit from a new electrical box makes a 90 degree turn and goes directly into my neighbor's apartment above the garage. It's pretty obvious who is responsible. I can only assume because of the extent of the work that was done that repeated entries were made while I was away, and an attempt was made to conceal it. What is my best recourse? Call the police? Call the building inspector? Confront my neighbor directly? Or go ahead and remove everything that was installed? Ideas please.
