Do you think it was significant? I do - I'm not a footy fan but this program had a ton of human interest.

This was Australian masculinity dissected.

  1. I didn't watch the show, forgot it was on.

I do have to congratulate Andrew Denton on his ability to get information out of all of the people he interviews.

From what you say he did this with Wayne Carey.

  2. Carey is a Creep and not worth mentioning

  3. It certainly was.

I think it's easy to forgive and even understand his (and his brother's) inability to come to terms with their violent upbringing.

But he didn't really come to terms with his own violent tendencies did he?  He knew how to say "I make no excuses" but he kept making them and blaming the drugs and alcohol.  No matter how much Denton spelt out his aggressive behaviour in black and white.  But maybe he did a little bit, right at the end.

I hope lots of other violent men watched it too and saw the obvious excuses and the obvious discomfort he was in and did a little self-reflection of their own.

    It was compelling stuff!

  4. No. Its amazing the drivel that gets such a build up. Somebody some time ago, after he was caught jumping his team mates wife, suggested that he was simply a c*nt. I think that has been proved.

  5. i can't say i watched it. i'm not interested in wayne carey really. he's not exactly a prime example of a human being. i hope he gets past his problems with alcohol and drugs and grows up.

  6. omg.... my girlfriend is related to him........ true... lol...! S**t !

He's a wanker, he doesn't represent the vast majority of decent Aussie males or footballers. He is a nobody now, who cares about him and his behaviour, treat him like an average person, it will bring him down off his pedestal and jail the wanker for his antisocial behaviour.

The show did more to promote him than to disect the Australian masculinity. He doesn't represnt the majority of Aussie men, so no i dissagree with your comment about disecting Aussie masculinity, it puts us all in his category. I think he is a minority of the Australian public who has his dirty washing hung out for all to see and now he is ashamed and embarrassed of it and is looking for any positive publicity to bring his reputation back. He hs no reputation now, he's an ex footballer, there are heaps of them around.

  7. I watched it and ended up feeling sorry for Wayne Carey. Mainly because Andrew Denton, whom I love as an interviewer, is sadly  not living in the real world. I could relate to Wayne Carey's partying and use of stimulants. He may well not be aggressive as his sister has describe, but anyone whom has mixed both booze and especially coke together you know that it can and often does change a persons behaviour to one that is more than likely to be violent.

He is an ex footballer whom was restricted in his partying when many of us were doing what we are supposed to at a young age to get it out if our systems. When you add the fact that now he has or had a disposable income and both alcohol and drugs became even easier to access. I have been there done that and constantly see it with a good deal of my friends. I think we should stop singling out people whom are in the public eye and therefor are vulnerable and look at the problems that exist within society itself.
