Question:

Australia Skill Matching Application Search Questions.?

I'm investigating getting a skill based visa into Australia. The immigration webpage is great!

I still have a question about the Skill Matching Function though.

As you can see from this link:

https://www.ecom.immi.gov.au/skillmatch_public/unknownApplicationSearchResults.do?action=VIEW&rowNr=3

...it seems that every opportunity for these skill based visas require *very* specific educational requirements that never seem to mention any United States colleges...and if they did would require me to move to a different State just to get into a college, to get a specific degree, for an opportunity that probably won't be there in four years!

Surely, I'm misreading this.

Can someone explain to my dumb a** how this really works?

Thanks!

  1. The Skills Matching Database contains specific requirements of specific employers for specific job opportunities. If it contains a suitable opportunity, of course that is great, but it's by no means the only avenue.

You can also go to: http://www.immi.gov.au/asri/index.htm for an assessment of your particular skills and qualifications. In any case, not every employer uses the SMD and if you can get sufficient points, you can get a visa without already having found a job.

There is nothing to stop you from accessing our local job seek websites such as Seek ( http://www.seek.com.au/ ) or CareerOne ( http://www.careerone.com.au ). If you have particular talents (or if you're good at selling yourself), you may be able to get an employer to sponsor you. AFAIK, it costs them nothing and they get themselves a valuable worker who may not otherwise have been available.

    Good luck.
