I would like a brief summery of Australia/World War 1 was in the war. I am studying it next term and would like to get a little bit of knowledge before starting the topic.

  1. Basically, Australia entered the first word war because they were part of the British Empire. It was a significant event in the history of Australia because even though they had fought in previous wars such as the Boer wars with Britain, this was the first conflict Australia was participating in as a Commonwealth. The wars before 1901 were fought by colonial troops sent by the governments of each state. Australia's first battle was at Gallipoli in Turkey on April 25, 1915. Other battles fought with the Australians was Lone Pine, the Somme and Paschendaele.
