how much would a week long trip to australia cost?

It all depends on where you are going and where you flying in from.  The flight alone is costly but it's not terribly expensive to do things in Australia.

That's dependant on alot of things. But here's an estimate.

Airfares (from say US) $2,500

Accommodation for 7 nights (at a 4* luxury inner city hotel) $1,400

Meals $900

Travel (buses/trains) $40 for a weekly pass

Tourist Attractions (such as theme park or bridge climbs etc.. based on around 5) $620

Miscellaneous expenses $200

Spending money $1,500

TOTAL $7,160

So I suggest allowing $8,000 - $10,000

Of course you can do it cheaper but for a decent enjoyable experience, that's my suggestion.

1 week in Australia is not a very long time, you'll be lucky to see one city in its entirety. The must see places are Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast. You would need at least a week in each. A decent holiday would be for a month. Travelling between the cities is easiest done via plane, you can fly between Melb - Syd and Syd - GC for around $50-$100 each leg of the trip.
