Australian PGA Championship; Sendon strikes 64
Revival was seen in the second part of the Australian PGA Championship, which kicked off with a star- stellar field on the Australasia Tour.
Despite the windy conditions, John Sendon made a superb come back and managed a flawless scorecard of seven birdies. The 39-year-old chose the back nine as his teeing area and walked towards the first tee with a 3-iron in his
hand. The wind blocked the long driver shots, thereby; the veteran chose iron as his weapon. His first attempt on the birdie failed at the par-4 10th, but the Aussie did not give up on his clubs. With a gap of one green, Sendon smashed the second
shot to the fairway and 3-ironed the par -5 hole for a birdie. The successful try encouraged the veteran for another attempt and hence Sendon birdied the 14th hole. He wrapped the first half with a score of two-under. This was somehow similar to
his score from the first round.
Walking towards the front, Sendon shared laughter with his caddie and told him that it was time for a change of strategy.
The winner of the John Deere Classic 2006 hit the third shot in the centre of green of first hole. Sendon’s caddie handed him the Titleist putter, which he grounded on the Bermuda grass of Hyatt Regency Coolum Golf Club. The ball
rolled towards the right of the flag and went straight into the hole.
Sendon drilled two more birdies at the second and third hole to which the spectators clapped uncontrollably. One of Sendon fans’ came forward towards the rope and yelled, “John show them what you have got.”
The golfer who turned professional in 1992 reeled two more birdies in the closing holes and wrapped the second round of the Australian PGA Championship with seven-under-par.
John Sendon is the only golfer in the four-day session to manage a bogey-free 36 holes.
Similar performance was given by Chris Campbell. The veteran made excellent use of his home ground and fired eight birdies on the par-72 course. His best shot was seen at par-3 sixth when the player smashed a birdie from the sand
bunker, which plunged the green and went straight into the hole.
