  1. What a lovely thing to want to do!

However, instead of just giving the food to your neighbours, why not invite them over for a meal - perhaps a lunch where you cook somethign special for them.  This will also help you to meet your neighbours and form friendships.

Most importantly, use this as a purely social occasion.  Don't try to force your beliefs on them - they have their own beliefs.  Australians are a very tolerant bunch, until you try to force them into something.

Good luck - and welcome to Australia!

  2. Some would take your kind gesture very well, others not well.  When you see these neighbours, do they look away from you and try not to speak to you?  Maybe they say rude things and put 1 finger up in your direction?  If that is true then you do not have to give them anything.....they do not want to be friends with you.

If they do speak to you nicely when you see them then all is well and you can offer them some of your food.  Expect nothing back but if they do give something then that's good.  Take it slowly, some make friends quickly...others not so quick.

  3. I am Australian & any kind gesture is universal in my opinion. You did a very nice thing.I dont understand why they reacted the way they did.

You must have got an ignorant neighbors Im sorry to say, because most Australians are quite warm & welcoming usually.

Just picked the wrong people to be nice to, sorry to say.

I feel that this is not a normal thing we would do. I do a similar thing here with people regardless of who they are.

Im not sure and cant really answer this honestly for you, sorry

I accept any kind gesture myself but others I cant tell.

Im sorry they did this to you. We are not all like this

  4. Depends upon the 'type' of people they are, its not a 'race or cultural' issue, I think they would really appreciate the gesture, if their mature enough, overwise they might take badly toward it, you see we Aussies usually just get to know each other over a BBQ or a Beer....i'd love to receive foreign dishes from my neighbours though, yum!
