Automobile safety?

Would a person be safer in a car if they are wearing a helmet of some kind...Motorcycle helmet...I know that a helmet can weigh several pounds and don't know how the kinetic energy would be distributed in an accident without the added seatbelt restraints that race car drivers use...in other words...will a helmet and a normal car seatbelt be more affective than just a seatbelt

  1. I think that it would obstruct your side view and create a even worst blind spot.

  2. HAHA I don't think so. If I were to have the equipment like NASCAR ~ I would be 'in' NASCAR.

  3. airbag and belt is plenty

a helmet would further hinder you periphial vision..there are already enough blind spots in autos..

save the helmet for the track

  4. The only thing that helmets would do is to protect occupants' heads from the force of hitting the interior of the car.  I doubt it will protect them from the force of the impact itself where your organs hit the inside of your body.  Besides, helmets would be more of a hindrance to vision.  I still say seat belts would be the best protection followed by airbags used together with the seat belts but I prefer a vehicle with good impact protection to begin with.

  5. Probably if it were designed to be very light in weight with no impairment to visibility.

The problem today is that most vehicles are built with plastics and so many young drivers want smaller type cars.

This is compounded when the speed limits are raised.

That is why so many fatalities continue on the highways.

Unless this problem gets the attention of the law makers, I don't see any improvement in the vehicular accidents.

Safe driving and safely built vehicles should be top priority.

Never was, never will be...I guess.
