BIG fantasy baseball trade.......??????

Question

Standard 5x5 scoring. Yahoo Public league.

I get: Jose Reyes

He gets: Jeter and F. Rodriguez

Jeter is uderperforming this year, but Rodriguez leads the MLB in saves and has been a workhorse in saves, ERA, and WHIP.

Jeter is my only SS, and Reyes would be a great upgrade.

My other RP's are: S. Torres, T. Jones, B. Morrow

I think I could spare Rodriguez for such a great upgrade at SS, but I would like some other opinions.

dont do it. reyes and jeter thois yr are equal and DONT get rid of F. Rod cuz he is leading the leagues in saves and that is very valuable. this trade wouldn't help u but it will hurt u. dont trade.

I usually preach patience.

This trade is tough, because if he were the 'normal' Derek Jeter, this would be overpaying.  He's way off career numbers in average, OBP, SLG, everything.

K-Rod will come back to earth.  A lot of his saves are a product of a weak Angels offense.  Until the last week, the Angels hadn't scored more than 5 runs in 31 of 34 previous games.  He is simply getting an inordinate number of save opportunities, and that's bound to change.

Saves can usually be plucked in free agency as teams shuffle their rosters.

I would be inclined to take it.  Jeter's shown no signs of exploding.  You get a huge upgrade in Reyes for the here and now.  

This could really help you make a move.

It couldn't hurt to open the bidding for your two players... test the water and see if you can incite a bidding war.  K-Rod will garner some interest.

I only see one acceptable reason to accept this trade, and that is if you REALLY need steals.  Steals is the only category where you are really going to upgrade having Reyes over Jeter.  You have to remember that you are only getting the players stats from the point at which he joins your team.  I dont think its realistic to think that Reyes will be much better than Jeter in any category other than saves.  Remember also that the Yankees have been going through A LOT of injury problems this year.  With A-rod down for as long as he was EVERYONE at the top of their lineup was bound to suffer.  If he's not there to knock them in that cuts down on runs, and it also causes guys to press thinking that they need to pick up the slack.  F-rod is lights out and i really dont see how you can afford to give him up.  Torres is doing well but there are A LOT of options in the Brewers bullpen and there's no guarantee he will keep that closing position.  Torres and Jones are both going to have the same problem in the second half.  Their teams are LOADED with power and run scoring potential, and as the weather is getting warmer when they win games it will more than likely be by more than 3 runs a majority of the time.  Morrow has been great and I think he's a good choice as long as he keeps the position when Putz comes back, but if he doesnt then you will be stuck with 2 sub par level 2 closers and no legit guy to turn too without F-rod.  To summarize, I dont think this trade is an upgrade for you team, you gain steals but you lose MASSIVELY in saves.

PS- I know Reyes has more HR than Jeter, but give me a break, that isnt something you can expect through a full season.  Jeter is still pretty much tied with Reyes in RBI, has struck out less, and has a comparable batting average.  Yes Reyes is pretty high in runs also, but with A-rod back Jeter's run scored will take a BIG jump in the 2nd half.

I would do it since you aren't really too competitive in the Saves category anyway.  Just continue doing what you are doing with saves in that you pick up guys that inherit the closers role.  Plus with the trade deadline looming it's gonna be even easier to get saves (i.e if Fuentes get traded, etc)

Saves is easy to get, but a trade to get a guy like Reyes and giving away little to get him, doesn't come that often.

You have to get J. Reyes.

I would do it, you likely can pluck a closer or two off waivers (Marte filling in for hurt Capps or Cleveland's new closer).  they may actually be an improvement over Jones anyway because while he gets saves he typically kills you in ERA.  reyes is going to outproduce Jeter this year while crushing him in steals and runs.  KRod will likely cool off but be careful b/c he helps your ERA and WHIP more than you give him credit for.

A lot depends on what the other teams' needs are.

If he doesn't need a closer, honestly, I think there's a chance that this guy doesn't accept this trade. Mainly because Jeter isn't as great as he should be AND for the fact that anyone who has Jose Reyes usually has their team built around him for his stolen bases and runs.

If you can pull the trade off, I say definitely go for it if you desperately need steals, but one major downside is that this will leave you in a huge mess with your closers.

Jones' ERA is above 5.00, Torres has struggled as of late, and Putz will take over for Morrow after the all-star break if healthy.

I know you love your shortstops, so if you can pull this off, good job. Closers will become available in free agency.
