I'm wanting to buy a used Blackberry off of EBay. I already have a contract/plan with Verizon, but my phone broke so that is why I'm getting a new one. My question is, do I HAVE to get internet on it? Or can I just continue it on the plan I already have??

  1. MasterGunner99 is correct. Even if you get a BlackBerry from somewhere else, once you go to activate it the data plan will be added on.

  2. Research in Motion (RIM), the company that provides Blackberries have a contractual agreement that any Blackberry sold on the Verizon network requires a data plan. Such a plan would allow you internet and email access.

Depending on what phone you get, the cost for such a plan can be as little as $24.99 up towards $44.99 in addition to the costs of your existing plan.

Verizon does offer voice and data bundles to help curve costs.

  3. The Internet is not required to use the Blackberry.  However, when my boyfriend tried to get a new phone through Verizon, he was told that the data plan was required.  (It may be required so you can get it at a less-than-retail price though.)

Give your carrier a call and tell them that you're going to get a Blackberry, not through the Verizon store, and if you are required to get a data plan.
