BMX in the Olympic Games?

I have been reading the comments to this article and have a few questions...

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/olympics/article.aspx?id=618242

I am wanting to know WHY it shouldn't be an olympic sport? I personally love it and think it fits perfectly with the Olympics (Faster Higher Stronger) as it takes skill and physical strength to do well. (If you don't believe me then just take a bike and try a track for yourself - not so easy!)

I would just like to hear a proper reason as to WHY it shouldn't be in the games - cause so far no one has actually given me a reason.

  1. Anyone who says BMX should not be in the Olympics obviously knows

nothing about the sport. BMX is probably one of the hardest sports

to be good at in the Olympics, honestly. They train so hard with the

top trainers every single day. These riders give up so much just to

train and be good at the sport. My boyfriend has been racing BMX

since he was 11 years old and hes a soon to be pro. All he ever does

is ride his bike. He seriously rides every day all day. He goes to the

gym. He does sprints on his bike. Unfortunately there isnt a track

anywhere close to us so its hard for him to get his skills on the track

to be good. If he can be state champion 3 years in a row and

get 2nd place in a national race and he doesnt ever get the chance to

ride a track, thats amazing. He trains that much harder in the gym

to get to the point where he is. Last year when your average BMX racer

is finishing up the season at the state championships when theyre

at there best for the year because theyve done so many races already

and my boyfriend only did one before the state championships and

he manages to place 2nd, thats awesome. Not to mention

that his class, 19-25 expert, has some of the best riders at

their age since the start of BMX racing, all the guys in his

class that are soon to turn pro are going to be some of the

top guys in the Olympics some day.  All of these riders train

hard, take it from someone who knows and has been around this.

If my boyfriend trains as hard as he does and hes just turning pro

soon, I cant even begin to imagine how hard the guys that made it

into the Olympics train. Seriously, if you dont know anything about

the sport, dont you dare say if shouldnt be in the Olympics. It

takes just as much hardwork and dedication as every other sport in

the Olympics if not more. For those of you saying it shouldnt be in

the Olympics, let me see you bust out of the gate going 40 mph

and sprint as hard and fast as you can while jumping huge jumps

and do it in less than a minute. Most of you would putting down the

sport couldnt make it over the first jump. This upsets me that anyone

who has no idea about what goes into this sport would say it shouldnt

be in the Olympics. This is the best sport in the Olympics and its

about time they put it in there. Seriously go ride a track, just casually

ride over it and see if you do it, dont even go fast, and lets see how

easy it is for you. This sport, yes its completely a sport, is

amazing. The guys who do it are in such good shape its unreal.

I agree with you, I want to know exactly why anyone thinks it shouldnt

be an Olympic sport. There crazy to think that.
