Okay, I've decided to buy a new bike. Which should I go for? I've riden bmx once, and It's pretty cool. I usually ride Trails. I'd like to do more tricks on my bike. Which should I go for?

I have trails and a skatepark near my house.

  1. I use to ride BMX, and had the same choice to make. I bought a hard tail MTB. I love it, I ride trails much more than urban, and the gears really help with that. When I was shopping around I a came accross the TREK Jack, which is the best of both worlds, trail riding and jumping...see link below.

  2. get a bmx

  3. Being you usually ride trails go for a hard tail mtn bike. A hard tail mtn bike can be used at a skate park where as a BMX bike is not a very good trail bike at all.

  4. We, of course, can't answer this question.  Only you can do that!

The biggest question is what do you want to do?

If you want to ride trails, forget the bmx and get a mountain bike.  If you want to ride the skatepark, you might be able to get by with a hardtail mountain bike, but obviously a bmx would be better.  If you are into more complex tricks than wheelies and bunny hops, you probably want the bmx.

Then, perhaps there is yet another way.  Sounds like you already have a mountain bike if you mostly ride trails.  Why don't you keep it for riding trails and get a bmx bike if you are interested in doing tricks and the skatepark.  If the mountain bike needs some repairs, you should have some money left over after buying the bmx...

    Hope this helps.

  5. i ride bmx and have been for the last 5 years. if you want to do tricks and what not i would go witha BMX bike. all you need to do is find a crew to ride with, and be motivated to ride and try new things. i was lucky with bmx, i grew up in the midwest (northern burbs of chicago) and i get to ride with people like kevin porter, brian kachinski, brian vowell, koji kraft, mike lundy, dean toby, tony cardona, jeff klugelwitz, dom trovato, dirty dan, josh eilken, tony maloof, and a bunch of other really good midwest people. MTB you are limited and it is almost 3 times more expensive than BMX. and BMX is more of a brotherhood than a competition.
