Question:

Baby Ball Python Temperatures

I just got a baby ball python yesterday (my first snake) and I have sort of a silly question: when monitoring temps, where are the best places to put the thermometers? I currently have a "2-in-1" hydrometer/thermometer on the cool side of the tank (sitting directly on the substrate) that has consistently read 80.5 - 84.5 during the day and a temperature probe inside of the hide on the warm side that has stayed around 88 - 92. Are these good places to be taking temperatures or should I be doing something else?

  1. You are doing it exactly right. You want to know the temp. exactly where your snake will be, not half way up the tank wall. Your temperature gradient is also good.
