  1. cat saliva is toxic to birds I will be surprised if it lives call your local vet you will not be able to care for the little guy at least give him a fighting chance with a vet. Beside there are federal and state laws to keep you from caring for it. be safe take it to a vet

  2. There is something you can do for this bird..get it to an expert at a local wildlife rehab where it can be put on a course of antibiotics to treat the bacterial infection that will develop from the wounds the cat inflicted.  Look here for a rehab near you:

  3. Birds that have been in the mouth of a cat need to be immediately treated with an antibiotic.  Mammals carry a disease in their saliva that is deadly to birds.  Without antibiotics there is very little chance for survival.

First you need to clean the wounds and put on antibiotic ointment, then wrap the area.  If you can get the bird to a vet or wildlife rehabber, even better.

NEVER feed Worms, Never put liquid in a birds mouth, it can cause aspiration pneumonia and die.

Put the bird in a box lined with paper towel or something soft and cover with a towel. Put it in a quiet room away from any stress

You can feed it dry dog/cat food soaked in water blended to the consistency of oatmeal.  If the bird were to survive then the proper diet would need to be followed.  Please see my profile and follow the links to Starling Talk.

  4. Just leave him, there is nothing you can do if you're not an Avian Veterinarian.

Baby birds cannot eat worms, they need special formula, and depending on the species & age, a certain humidity level and temperature controlled area, like a brooder, to live in until he is old enough to fly.  Also, depending on the species, you need certain vitamins & minerals, or else he won't make it.

JUST LET HIM BE! There is nothing you can do. I know you want to save him, make him feel better.. but you're honestly only making things worse by feeding him the wrong foods and making him drink water, but you must know avian anatomy pretty well before you can even think of feeding him his formula, or you will just be making him suffer to death, rather than just letting nature take it's course or letting another animal feed his babies.

Not to mention the fact he's already infected with Pasteurella, which is a bacteria in Cat saliva that is poisionous to birds. If not flushed immediately, and the wound dressed properly, he is already on his way down. And feeding him is only making it more painfull.

  5. if you take this bird to an avian vet they will take it from you and take care of it and it will live, cats have something in their saliva that kills birds in saliva to begin with so even if it isn't bleeding and it didn't hurt it you would need to take it to a vet so why not give it a shot and bring it to a vet and drop it with them and maybe they will have a heart and nurse it and let it go into the wild when it's old enough, some avian vets will.
