Question:

Baby Blue Jay help!?

There's a little baby blue jay and it fell into a little vent area outside of my basement window, and we can't get him/her out. It can't fully fly yet, and both the parents are flying around so we can't even go into our backyard without them trying to attack us.

We need to get the little guy out of there, cause it's suppose to rain today, and it provides no shelter for him. And I don't know how long it will take for that little guy to fly out.

Any suggestions on how to get him out without making the 2 parents mad.

  1. Just get the bird out safely, and don't worry about the parents.   They cannot hurt you.  They are only protecting their baby.

If the bird has fallen into a dryer vent - you must disconnect it from your dryer and remove the bird.  If it is in the dryer vent, that would be a good time to clean it - they are a major source of fire if built up with lint.

Vents should be removable, and they are generally easy to disassemble and reassemble.

After you have removed the bird, place it in a safer, nearby location, preferably under, or in the low branches of a bush - where the parents can find it.    Then leave the area, so they can tend to their baby.

    Best of luck to you!
