Baby/Fledgling Bird???

I have a young bluejay that is really sweet. He is fully feathered, sits on perches, and talks to me. He is very protective of me. Well, I had to leave for 3 days and told my dad to feed him. He said he ould, I showed him ho and stuff. Well its been a day and my dad said that he hast ate a lot like normal, crys all the time, and looks sad. When I am there he never did that at all before. He was happy, ate like cow, and was never really loud only if I left the room. I would of taken him with me, but my stepdad doesnt like animals and is alergic. I am bonded to the bird. I have had him for a month and he is soo close to me. I found him on the ground, his mother was killed. He was near the mother and he hasnt had food for a while. He comes to his name and goes in his cage when told.

Is this possible that a wild bird that I have kept for a month has separation anxiety?

Is it hard to break?

Will he remember me when I get back home?

  1. Most wild birds are protected and therefore it is against the law to keep them as pets.  I'm rehabilitating a sparrow nestling I found last week with help from my local Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.  As soon as he is able, I will be letting him go.  Good luck to you.

  2. It is true, unless you have a house sparrow, starling or a pigeon it is illegal to own a wild bird.  It does sound as though this bird has imprinted on you and CANNOT be released back into the wild.  It would not know how to find its own food and it would not join a flock. Putting it outside would be a death sentence.

How old was the bird when you got it?  What are you feeding it?  It will need to be placed on a well balanced diet.

But yes your bird will remember you in a month and I do not think he will suffer any seperation anxiety ....

Please read my profile about me section as I can't post any links in here for some unknown reason and follow the links to the message board, someone there will be able to help you more than I can....
