Well, I just found a baby mallard wandering the streets next to my house. My family and I had heard chirping earlier this morning, and I guess it was this little Mallard duckling! We know the basics of taking care of it, but any extra advice would be great!

Also, how do you tell if it's a boy or a girl? So far, we're just calling it Ping.

Thanks!!!

  1. Okay. Well make sure it's somewhere warm with a heat lamp.[Also make sure he can get away from the heat lamp if he becomes too hot]

He'll need duck food, and fresh water, but make sure the bowl isn't too big, you don't want him to drowned in the water.

You won't be able to know if it's a boy or girl until it's older and its adult coat appears.

  2. put it in a large container, high enough so he can't get out. Place it n a safe place and put a lamp over one side of the container and on the other duck food and a small water bowl to swim in. Make sure he can't drown in it. Make sure also he has somewhere where he can sleep. A few blankets and it will nest in them. When it is an adult you will be able to tell its gender. When it gets a bit bigger, check with your local vet for more advice on how to care for it.     PS. Make sure he can escape from the light if he is too hot
