Baby bird hurt?

Question

i have a baby bird and the mother seems not to like it . it cannot fly and can bearly move. it has a cut at the top of its nostrils. will it survive . will it be able to be with its mother again . i got it out its cage and put it in a seperate cage with another baby bird that got hurt.

FYI - possessing wild birds (unless they are starlings or European house sparrows) is illegal.  It is also never a good idea to try to care for a wild animal baby of any kind unless you've been trained to do so.  These babies need expert care immediately - call your local humane society, audubon society, or wildlife rehabilitation center.  You are in federal violation by keeping them, so do what you can to move them on to a place that can legally deal with them.

EDIT - That whole thing about the mother bird rejecting the babies once they've been touched by humans is a myth.  Most birds don't have very well developed senses of smell.  Best thing to do is perch the baby somewhere near where the nest is and momma bird and daddy bird will do the rest.  If they abandon it, that's nature's way.  They may sense that something is internally wrong with the bird and reject it.  Sad as that is, it happens all the time in nature.

First of all the baby is probably not moving because it is scared of death and is at risk of shock which can lead to death. The cut on the top of it's Ceres, "nostrils" should be find if it is not deep or infected. You should release the baby bird with it's mother. If you keep it has a far greater chance of death. You do not know how old it is and if it still needs to be weaned. I take it you don't know to wean. Give the baby back to the mom. If you touch a baby then give it to the mom and the mom won't take care of it is a myth. I saved a baby bird just last week. However if the mother seems to fly away and does not come back for at least an hour you can take the bird to the vet and find it a bird sanctuary!

If the mother has rejected the baby then you may need to continue hand feeding until it is able to eat on its own. With your care it should survive just fine. The baby should be fed every 20-30 minutes for at least 12 hours of the day.  This will form a nice bond between you an bird.  Watch the cut on it beak and keep it clean, maybe a little bit of antibiotic ointment will help, just make sure none will enter its mouth.. Do not inject liquid into a baby birds mouth it can cause aspiration pneumonia and then death.
