  1. She could be getting nervous, especially if you keep looking at her, try leaving her be, only feeding her for at least 2 weeks.

  2. i don't think that the mother would hurt them.  just let her do what she wants.  just don't touch them cause then the mother might not want to go near them.

  3. hello Hello! take a deap breath, let it out slowly, and ask yourself am I the mother? make sure you answer no!

ok let's get down to the bottom of this. are people getting too close? is there too much light getting into the cage? if so put up some cover on it.

if not, she is a clean freak, do not worry about her carrying her babies she is the mom and knows what she is doing.

Crocodiles carry their new born hatched babies a number at a time, in their mouth down to the water and let em go in special protected places, and goes back and gets another mouth full, till she can stay in the water and protect her babies.

it is motherly nuture and nature.

you gotta let her be the mother, ok? ok

if you keep staring in, it will stress her out, be especially cautious till the babies open their eyes.

peace up in Jesus amazing grace John chapters 3, 10 and 6, the new and more abundant life for a pet owner, and everyone, David

p.s. and best wishes .and as they grow bigger you will have to separate the males and females and for some to live in single cages, to prevent fighting in inbreeding.  and even with different family hamsters, unless you have homes for them to stop multiplicity.

  4. Yup! It's a habit of hammy moms, especially first time mommies. They will move their babies around A LOT sometimes just to move them back minutes later. Don't worry about her hurting them, but DON'T touch them. She will only hurt them if she feels they are being threatened. If you look up hamster parenting on google, you can read it from a few different sites that this is normal.

  5. my guinea pig did this too. she had her babies in three dif spots through the day.  each had more shad during certian parts. don't touch them. my guinea pig killed one cause i touched it

  6. Just leave the mother hammy to do her job, she knows what is best for her babies. And yes, some mother hamsters have the habit of moving their babies from one place to another. All she is trying to do is to give her babies the best place to live in the cage. However she should not be moving them too often in a single day. Then maybe something in the cage is irritating her like -

Less bedding - lower a roll of unbleached, untreated and non fragrant toilet paper into the cage very slowly and carefully without disturbing the mom and babies. She can rip the paper off to make her nest more comfy for the lil ones.

Unwanted disturbances - Is there any light falling directly on the cage? Is there a lot of noise in the room she is kept? Do you or others in the house disturb the cage often to take a look at the lil ones? If so, please remove the cage slowly and carefully to another area which is peaceful and dim and leave the cage alone for the next 8 days so that the mother does not feel her babies are at risk.

Otherwise leave her to do her duty as a mother and don't worry. Just make sure you give her lots of nutritious food so that she is healthy enough to carry out her baby care tasks.

  7. yep she might think they will be safer or warmer there

  8. I don't know as that would scare me but we had gerbils once who ate their babies.  Maybe she's just setting them where she thinks they will be the most comfortable.
