Babylock Imagine Wave serger

Question

This is my first serger, I purchased this machine from a babylock dealer in the United Kingdom, the plug was a european plug. The insructions on the plug suggest to replace the end if it didn't work for the united states 110 electrical system. So that is what I did. The machine dose power up but the needle doesn't go up and down?. Are their major differences in the electrical operating systems when machines are purchased outside of the U.S. or this a operator error?
