I am 16 and starting to babysit more often. I am sitting more younger children (ages 6mo-1yr) and I dont think I have the proper knowlege to handle these kids. Are there any websites that will help me learn how?

  1. Well if you lived in Canada ON there are babysitting classes you can take. I'd recommend going to your local library and taking out 'What to Expect the first year' and 'What to expect the toddler years'. Great Books, I have all three of them

  2. myspace. no just google babysitting tips or ask a grandma or mom

  3. The best way I found out (when I started babysitting myself a long time ago) to figure out how to sit for kids was to volunteer at a local NICU/Hospital.  I found out quickly how to do things from all of the well-trained nurses.  They are also always looking for more hands to help out.  However, try to remember that each child is different.

If you are not comfortable with volunteering, then you could sit and watch a real mother with her child for a few hours.  At least until you get the hang of it.

No amount of reading really 100% prepares you for kids.  If you are babysitting kids already that young, then I would suggest asking the mother/father/parents for a "schedule" - a list of tasks to do at certain times.  I found that was best when I got my first babysitter for my oldest daughter.  Made things a lot easier.  I also included a list of "do's" and "don't's".
