Ball Python spends time in water?

Question

I got my ball python about 3 weeks ago, so far everything has been fine. He is eating fine. I keep the cage about 85-90 degrees and humidity 55 percent. My question is that the past couple of days, my snake spends almost all his time in his water dish. I was wondering if this is a bad thing.

Sounds like he's getting ready to shed.

Is his belly a pinkish color (or has it been in the past few days)? How about cloudy (or clouding) eye color? Is he a dull, drab color? Does he just feel "dry" to the touch? Those are all some signs of a shed getting ready to occur.

Bump his humidity up to about 65 to 75% when he goes into shed. Once the process completes and he has shed you can bump it down to 50 to 60% again. The extra humidity helps them shed easier. Part of the reason they soak is because the humidity is too low.

no its not a bad thing its getting prepared for his shedding or he could be getting rehydrated

he should be fine my ball pythons go in the water all the time, i would have to say if its in the water all the time its getting ready to shed. give him at least another week, and i wouldn't feed him in the mean time, when they shed there is allot of pressure between the new skin and the old skin. and if you feed him it will create even more pressure, which could then make him regurgitate. and after they do that sometimes(worst case scenario) they wont eat and could end up dieing.  i would also do as the others said and drop the temp. some, have a nice cool hide spot and see if he likes that

I have 2 ball pythons and they love to soak our temprature in our inclosures is perfect. Thats just what they like to do dont worry about it, it is perfectly normal.

No it is not a bad thing. He is probably getting ready to molt..

Your python is probably too hot.  Snakes, being cold blooded need to maintain their body temperature manually.  Keep the cage at 80 and see if there is a difference.  Good luck.
