In the past few weeks i have been getting told that i am not pointing my feet. People say i am cruling my toes instead of making them pointe. One teacher told me to crunch my toes. Can this be true and what do i do to fix it besides crunching my toes???

  1. For making it so you pointe your foot, not curl your toes, exercise just relaxing your toes and try pointing with your ankle.

Also make sure your foot is pointing out & not inward or else your sickling, which is not attractive or wanted.

  2. Point your whole feet!

  3. well thats quite hard if u havent been taught how to pointe your feet properly. So long as u learn how to pointe them before you go on pointe. If your curling your feet its basically called "Fish feet". try pointing your feet but then really think about stretching your feet. if you really work hard on this constantly then soon itll just come naturally and it wil be sorted. i would try getting extra help from your teachers because they can see it and should be able to help

    hope it gets sorted :)

  4. The pointe of your foot comes from your outer calf muscle. Have someone press down your toes for 5-10 minutes everyday and your arch will drastically improve.

  5. Remember to point the ENTIRE foot, and point from your arch. In other words, don't let your foot be limp and then try to ppoint by shaping your toes. It's all in the details. Try stretching your toes and your ankles, as well as possibly getting a flexiband. And, when you go into tondue, really brush against the floor with good turnout, leading with your heal, and being on the ball of your standing foot. Good Luck!

  6. Hi Balletlover,

The reason you might be only pointing your toes is that you want to point your feet harder.  This is a very simple problem.  My suggestion to you to fix it is to try pointing your foot (but not your toes).  Let your toes hang limp and just use curve your arch into a point.  If you are doing this exercise correctly, you will feel something in the outside muscles of your calf, called the Gastrocnemius and the Peroneus longus, as well as in your upper arch.  If you do not feel the stretch in the Gastrocnemius and the Peroneus longus, try flaring your point a little more.

Here's a great diagram from Wikipedia of the lower leg muscles.  It will help you identify which muscles I mean.

After you achieve the proper stretch, commit it to muscle memory.  Remember that you must stay in one position for at least seven seconds for it to commit to memory.  Now, finish your foot by pointing your toes.  Your point should look good.  If it looks strange after that, I would seek help in correcting it with one of your teachers.

Good luck and hope this helped.  Remember, always feel free to contact me with further questions.♥

  7. instead of creating a straight line from your knee to the tip of your toes, you are curling your toes under, right?

if i were you, i would start working on my feet. flex your toes, and point your feet, keeping your toes flexed. then point your toes and you will create a good point. always check your feet in the mirror and be sure not to sickle.

    hope this helps :)

  8. When your'e pointing your feet your'e not just crunching your toes, your'e pointing your whole foot towards the ground. So when your'e doing ballet, be sure to remember to point your WHOLE foot. Good luck

  9. Try pointing your feet starting from your ankle and then just have your toes follow the like your ankle makes from your leg.

  10. You probably have a smaller hammer toe which, will make your other toes try to align with it. That's my main problem when I was starting.  What you can try to do:

On place the tip of your toes (your pointing leg) on the floor like you are going to stand on the tip of your toes (kind of like en pointe). Now hold that position (don't move your toes), and stretch your leg out to point. That should be your position.
