Ballsmania Cup preview: Part two
Nottingham will host the first of seven nights of the Ballsmania Cup this Friday. We continue the preview here with the third and fourth legs of the Cup.
Ballsmania Cup - Leg 3 (A5)
Born Winner will race in the third leg of the Ballsmania Cup from the first trap. The pup won her first A5 race last week, but will have a difficult time pushing her way into the top three in this race.
Coming from the second trap will be Dromana Pembo, who does best when leading a race, but hasn’t been able to lead or win since late July. He also hasn’t been able to crack the top three since July 31.
In the third trap is Skyline Mohican coming off back-to-back victories. Mohican has recently moved up to the A5 level after looking good in the final stretch of his last two races, keeping the lead in one and taking the lead in the other.
Saffron Spirit will race from the fourth trap. After back-to-back victories in May, Spirit has been very inconsistent. Weeks of fourth and fifth place finishes finally gave way to four second-place finishes in his past six races; problem is the other two
finishes were at sixth place.
Salacres Simples will start in the fifth trap, and has not finished worse than third in his young career, but he has also only won one race to date. It’s just a matter of time until he wins again, and it could easily be tomorrow night.
Racing veteran, Goldplated, will race from the sixth trap. He didn’t look good in his last race, finishing in third after being the 5-4 race favourite, but the field in this race is full of slumping and unproven hounds.
The third leg will be a difficult one for punters whose best bet may be to test their luck with a long shot.
Ballsmania Cup - Leg 4 (A2)
In the first trap of the fourth leg, Salacres Chief will be looking to re-establish himself as a winner after dropping from the A1 grade. Chief hasn’t made it to the top three since winning a race on June 26. Don’t think he’s lost his form; he’s perfectly
capable of winning at the A2 level.
Foot Stool will be the long shot to win the fourth leg even though he’s coming off a victory. If he can get a good start he could finish well, but don’t count on it.
Hitches Hero could be a good bet with decent odds. He’s finished in the top three in his past nine races with three wins in that time. The odds may not place him in the top three in this race, and if they don’t, he could be the best bet of the field.
In the fourth trap is Salacres Ramsfan, who after winning on August 13 and taking second in his next race, has failed to reach the top three in his past three races. He also finished last in two of those races.
Basic Daniel in trap five lost a close race on September 11, which could give him longer odds than deserved considering he’s also not won a race since August 2. If that’s the case he’ll be a good bet.
Blue Fax Ace will race from the sixth trap after dominating at the A4 and A3 grade. He’ll be a good bet no matter what his odds are.
Expect Fax Ace or Daniel to take first place in this one.
