I have 2 checking accounts with different banks. I had an overdraft in one of those and the bank closed the account and put my name on the chex system. Is this going to affect my other bank account?

  1. No this will not effect your existing bank account at the other institution...Chexsystems will only effect you if you attempt to open any new account at any bank but as I said it will not effect your already open account.

  2. No the banks have independent systems. However you need to make good on the 1 good account you have left and deal with any overdraft you have.

  3. no this will not affect your other account, but if you want to open another checking account wih another bank it may be difficult becasue your name in in chexsytems. your name and ssn will be in the system for about 5 years, your best bet is to make arrangments to pay your overdrawn account before it goes to collections. once you pay in full then it will be a bit easier to get another checking account.

  4. Hopefully the second bank will still allow you to keep the account open.  If they do, do not overdraft that one, and do not close it.  If you are in CHEX other banks can refuse to give you a checking account.

The best thing to do is to pay off the overdraft and try to get your name cleaned off of CHEX.

    Good luck
