Barcelona ‘have Mezut Ozil bid accepted'
Barcelona are said to have become the front-runners to sign Werder Bremen playmaker Mesut Ozil. Spanish outlet Sport reported that the Catalan giants have had a bid of between 12 million and 15 million euros for the player accepted by the German Bundesliga side.
With Werder Bremen keen to receive a fee for a player who could leave the club for nothing next summer, they are said to be ready to deal with Barcelona over the 2010 FIFA World Cup star’s signature.
Barcelona chiefs are reportedly waiting for the go-ahead from first-team manager Pep Guardiola before they hold talks with Ozil and his representatives. Should Guardiola give the move his okay, then the those discussions should prove successful for both parties.
Messi factor
After previously being asked about a potential move to Barcelona or La Liga rivals real Madrid, Ozil stated that he would prefer to play for the Camp Nou side, claiming that the presence of Argentine superstar Lionel Messi alone would be enough to convince him to join up.
Ozil announced his arrival as one of the world’s best emerging talents when he shone with Germany in South Africa. He pulled the strings as he was allowed to operate in a free role behind the strikers and helped his country to a third-place finish.
If Ozil joins Barca, it is likely that he will feature on the right of a three-pronged attack along with Messi on the left and David Villa as the main striker. Failing that, Ozil’s considerable passing talents mean that he could also be utilised to good effect alongside Xavi and Sergio Busquets in the middle of the park. Either way, he would prove a good capture for Barcelona and, as he is just 21, has plenty of time to become an even better player for them.
