Was just there, at some hotel on 6 mile rd. Funny how you name your streets as such up there. I ate at the Macaroni grill near my hotel, not a burger, sorry.

My company is only 2 miles from Bates. Every Christmas Eve day each year I buy dozens of Bate's burgers for my employees as a special thanks(They call it BAT-tAye's to make it sound swanky French) for our morning coffee break. The Burgers are awesome and the fresh cut fries are made the old fashion way. Wednesday is Coney day. The parking lot is small, and sometimes dangerous. The dinning area Inside is a time capsule to a earlier era when counters were Stainless Steel, and everything else was shining white. Because the walk in traffic would crowd the sit down customers, they have a walk up carry out window.

My daughter cried when the Bates in Novi where we lived was torn down for a strip mall, good thing I work in Livonia.

Bates Hamburger is on the corner of Five Mile Road and Farmington Road across the street from a shopping center and near the Livonia Chamber of Commerce. Although I have not eatten there in years, they have great hamburgers and the restaurant is a classic.

What do you want to know?  Yes!  They're located on the NW corner of Five Mile Road and Farmington Road in Livonia, MI.  Bates has also received the 2007(?) AOL Best Craving Food Award of Metro Detroit.  Their Burgers are the best with extra cooked onions.  

I had  my kitchen redone a $30K job 10 years ago. Anyway, the title guy came over and for what I wanted done in the kitchen he said, "No way the aloted $75 in your contact is not going to cover this $400 tile job with all the cutting you're asking.  

I then said to him, "I'll give you free reign to design the kitchen title work, I'll stay out of your way, and get you whatever you want for lunch."  20 Bates Burgers later, I had a beautiful titled & slate kitchen that did not cost me an extra dime just $20 in Bates Burgers.

Also, I had an evaluator come up from Texas to evaluate my work performace last year.  This guy travels 200 days a year across the country on a government perdiem.  So in other words, he's eaten in some this country's most fun and interesting places.  Anyway, I took him to Bates and  two burgers later he could not stop talking about how good and what a unique taste the burgers have.  To this day, a year later, he still asks me what was the name of that burger place in Livonia...."unbelieveable taste."

Now remember, there's another Bates  Hamburgers in Farmington Hills, MI owned by distant members of the same family but it is not nearly as good because they cut corners and save a dime here and there on their ingredients.

Pretty good. If you want a really good burger go to Millers Bar Mich Ave and Telegraph. Just a hole in the wall but very good.
