Bearded dragons againn....

Question

SO! Basically my second day having my beardie, and im very nervous. I dont know when its happy or hungry or too hot or too cold. I just tried holding him a little while ago and his tail curled and he ran fast away from me. I finally got him, after about 15 minutes chasing him around my bedroom, and when i put him back in the tank he held his mouth wide open and hissed once. What am I doing wrong?!?!

give the little guy some time. he needs to get used to his new home. be sure that your temperatures for basking and nighttime are correct because that's vital to your beardie's health

He's gunna need a little time to adjust. They need a time period to de-stress. They'll be really jittery when you first get them. To make sure his temp is good, get a thermometer. They're at all local pet stores ^____^ Keep the temps at 90-100 (Even 105) and don't let it get under 70 at night. Good luck! Please come talk to me if you have ANY questions about Beardies! I was super paranoid with my first ones too. They're very hardy guys though and fairly hard to mess up on. If his tanks set up right, no worries about the temps., and offer a bowl of veggies or dragon food and a few supervised crickets and your foods covered. Give him some time on being held, and work on how you pick him up too. Trying hold him in an enclosed area, like sitting in a closet or bathtub so there's no chasing involved. It causes stress and makes you look like a predator. Try scooping from underneath not approaching from above (also makes you look like a predator) If you have any questions at all though, feel free to email any time. Is always nerve-wracking starting out...6 years later with 3 adults and 20+ babies currently, I think we managed ok, lol.

Don't worry. My Beardie did the exact same thing when I first got him. He, or she, is just unfamiliar with the new surroundings. Give it some time and space to adjust to it's new and most likely permanent cage. And with that, make sure you have all the heating devices necessary to keep him alive. Don't let it get too cold at night because it causes great stress on the Beardie, and stress is NOT good at all for animals, especially when they are introduced into a new home. Stress could cause it to not feed and become inactive. So, just be patient and good luck.
