Becomming a a snowboard instructor?

Question

I'm taking a gap this year and am very interested in doing a lot of snowboarding and hopefully getting some sort of instructor qualification.

I've been snowboarding for a couple of years now and am probably at intermediate level( i think :S)- i can links turns quite easily on red runs and can go down black runs(if i have to-i still get scared). Apparently my 'technique' is good but the thing about my riding which stands out to me is that im juist not that fast!!!

I learnt how to snowboard in dry slope(which sucks) but its all`there is where i live so am also a bit worried wether i'll be good enough on snow seeing as ive only been on it a couple off times.

Anyways anyone got any recomendations about what company to go with?

Do people usually go on their own and just make new friends there?

I thik i'd want to do 11 weeks or something so i get on snow for longer :)!

Im guessing that you're in the UK...

If you have the money going to Austria and taking the course there (costs around 700 euros I think) will probably be a good idea.

English speaking teachers are always needed so you can probably get a job right away.

I dont really know how the different companies work but I have a friend who gets lives in the mountains all winter, she has no expenses for the season pass or for the place that she stays at but she has to teach a lot.

From your question, you are not in North America, so I'll just guess that you should contact the school where you want to teach.  Speed is not usually a condition for teaching any sport since your students are afraid of the speed and do not want to injure themselves or a bystander.

Our teaching season just ended, it started in December, and went through this weekend.  A little longer than usual, by 4 weeks.

Ive been a Snowboard instructor or 9 years! its the best! it's ok if your not the greatest rider out there. at the Mt I work at we have Clinics that go out everyday and all the instuctors learn new things. its amazing. The more you ride the better you get. and dont be afraid to ask questions. In the States theres this organization Called AASI American someing snowboard intructors. theres three levels of certification you can earn by learning in thte clinics and taking tests. its really hard to get your 3 though. anyway. i hope this helped.

try entering some competitions and getting sponsored...

freestyle---> start doing parks

speed------> get a hard board... (the one with a flat end and skiing boots... and practice steep slopes!!! blacks that are 50° xD) ok mabye not that hard but at least mastering blacks :D
