Question:

Beginner ATV rider, advice?

Hi guys!

I've decided both as a hobby and a stress reliever to begin riding ATV's on the weekends. I'm a 23 y/o female.

I haven't the slightest clue about the best ATV's to start with, but I'm currently looking at the Yamaha YFZ450.

Any advice would be appreciated about which bike would suit me, and tips and tricks for learning quickly.

  1. do not get carried away with yourself

you can hurt your self very badly if you get brave

    ---------------

stay only on marked ORV trails if trail riding the DNR officers are not happy with you when you get on seasonal roads...   believe me ive been there

    --------------

i wouldnt get a YFZ 450 as a beginner ATV i would start off with a small four stroke 250 dirtbike- i would go honda for a beginner     yfz 450s are powerful and have a deep powerband, my friend had recently been sent to the hospital becuase he had hit a tree with his yfz 450 and broke several ribs/bones

    ----------

wear your helmet and chest protector all the time

    -----------

take time to get used to your bike/atv before hitting the trails or the tracks. start off with just riding it around on your lawn for a couple of hours then go to the trails       once youve mastered the trails your ready for the track

    --------

always preform regular maintenince to keep your vehichle running in peak performance these tasks include-

    change oil

    change spark plugs

    oil chain

    clean air filter

check coolant levels (only if liquid cooled)

    -------

follow those simpol steps and you should be an expert with in months

  2. you might want to go a little smaller. depending on your weight. if you are a on the thin side mabey a 250 since your a beginer. tricks you might want to wait. but best thing to do is to envest in some good gear

  3. get helmet and ride when dried

  4. Buy a dirtbike ATV's are for old men

  5. That's a little fast for a starter. When I started to ride I got a Honda 250. You shift gears but no clutch to have to work. And it is pretty fast and good and reliable also:) And the pipe does not get so hot that you can't wear shorts also like the one you are looking at. That will be real hot on you legs. Good luck and be safe
