Bell work for elementary art class ?

I would like to have some work for the kids to get started with while I get the kids seated and class started. Any ideas?

Why don't you have a visual journal and each day give them a "subject" to draw about. Such as; friendship,patriotism, pets,family,sportsmanship, flying, green-save the earth. You could put up comments or notes with the word on the board but it would be fun to see how they interpret the words. Also their journals themselves, putting them together, could be a class project. It could also get them excited about the idea. They would keep them in their desks and be able to do this independently.

Part of art is noticing thing in their environment. Give three basic shapes on chalk board and have children write down three thing they seen that fall in that general shape or combination of those shapes. Example: circle=Clock, fountain, sun,etc.this should keep them busy and inspire them to look at object ad their makeup.
