Benefits of rocks for a plant?

would there be any benefits for my potted plants if i put a few rocks/stones on top of the dirt? would it act almost as a pebble tray or just be decorative? would it block the water from reaching the roots or help add humidity?

It would help in the irrigation and jazz of the plant, it also is extra protection for the roots, and is decorative.

it would actually help the soil from drying out as fast, and the water would get to it just fine. a little decorative moss, or mulch looks nice and holds moisture also.
