He moved to White Hart Lane following an impressive stint at Blackburn, but never really made an impact. The 28-year old winger has only made 42 appearances for Spurs, and has only three goals to his name.
Bentley served two loan spells during his time with Tottenham, first at Birmingham City and then West Ham. The player was unluckily sidelined for six months during his time at Upton Park and had to undergo knee surgery.
He was hopeful of proving his worth under new manager Andre Villas-Boas, with the Portuguese himself saying that he considered Bentley to have a future with Spurs.
However, Bentley moved further down the pecking order with the arrival of new midfield signings Gylfi Sigurdsson, Moussa Dembele and Clint Dempsey. The player recently completed a move to Russian club http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Rostov-c39192 on another season long loan.
The player still believes that he has what it takes to earn a spot in England’s international team set up. Bentley has seven international caps to his name with England after he impressed with the U21 team set-up. Speaking to the press, he said:
"I thought the new manager might give me a chance but there's probably been too much water under the bridge already.”
"England was another thing that came tumbling down at Tottenham. I still believe I can play at that level but I've just got to be given the chance to play regularly again.”
"I looked at the call-ups this week and felt I've still got a chance. I don't think what happened was over hype or anything. I handled it, but suddenly the spotlight is on you. You've got to be able to handle it. I always felt I did."
